Water conservation programs 1. Integrated Grey Water Management Program The overall objective of the applied research is to improve the quality of life and well being of men, women and children in vulnerable communities of Jordan by promoting WDM through enhancing wateruse efficiency for large water consumers with attention to the protection of public health and the natural environment. Funding Agency: Canadian International Development Research Center (IDRC) and the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) Duration:آ Two years Starting Date:آ April 1st 2006 2. Treated wastewater reuse in agriculture. Mutah University has a modern waste water treatment plant that produces up to 500 m3 /day with Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) not exceeding 7 ppm and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) around 30 mg/l. These quantities were utilized in irrigation of the plantation all over the university campus compartments and staff member housing. This reduces the consumption of freshwater by 40%. Beside that some outside communities were using this water for irrigation and research application too. 3. Real –Time water quality and quantity monitoring system in Drinking water tank and University Well. This system was installed and run as a part of the project entitled "Transboundary Water Governance and Climate Change monitoring in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan". The main objective is to establish state of the art real-time water monitoring networks inside the university campus. Aan to train young scientists from the university staff who will be developed to install, operate and maintain additional real-time water quantity and quality stations. The young scientists will also be trained to use and apply the extended applications. They will then be able to utilize the information derived from this network towards improved university decision-making regarding water consumption and demand.
