“Fifth International Conference on Smart Managerial Practices in Enhancing Integrity and Transparency for Tackling Managerial and Financial Corruption”

Conference Objectives

The Fifth International Conference on Smart Managerial Practices in Enhancing Integrity and Transparency for Tackling Managerial and Financial Corruption aims to accomplish the following objectives:

1. Establish a clear vision for institutional reform and anti-corruption practices guided by the series of the discussion papers for his majesty King Abdullah II

2. Describe and explore the concept of corruption, the forms of financial and managerial corruption and the methods of prevention and detection

3. Demonstrate how the implementation of best anti-corruption practices can achieve income equality and economic development

4. Promote the utilization of the various applications of information technology in the public and private sectors for enhancing integrity and transparency.

5. Explore the accounting and financial methods and techniques used to prevent corruption and detect embezzlement

6.Demonstrate the pivotal role of public policies in tackling corruption

7. Illustrate the paramount role of the effective implementation of organizational strategies and managerial control in tackling corruption in business organizations

8. Provide a scientific and academic forum that brings together researchers, specialists and graduate students at the national, regional and international levels to promote the exchange and sharing of experiences and knowledge among them.

9. Suggest applicable recommendations, drawn from the papers presented and discussed in the conference sessions, to guide decision makers on the best practices for combating financial and managerial corruption.


 

Conference Scope and Topics

 First: Management and Corruption

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Business strategies and policies in combating corruption practices

2. The Role of managerial control in fighting managerial and financial corruption

3. Implementing effective human resource management practices against corruption in business organizations

4. The role of leadership in combating corruption in decentralized governance structures

Business  ethics and professionalism and their role in preventing managerial corruption in business entities

 

Second: Institutional Reform and Strengthening Governance for Better Anti-Corruption Mechanisms  

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: 

1. The discussion papers of His Majesty King Abdullah II: The Leading Role in the comprehensive Institutional Reform 

2. Lobbying effect on business environment and direct foreign investment 

3. The role of corporate governance in reinforcing anti-corruption mechanisms 

4. Emerging forms of corruption,  institutional climate and culture  

5. Policy making and implementation to address corruption 

6. Modernizing public sector in Jordan for transparency and integrity enhancement 

7. The role of the National Integrity and Anti-Corruption Strategy to combat corruption practices 

8. Benchmarking best practices of developed countries and international and regional organizations in preventing and detecting financial and administrative corruption

 

Third: The Role of Accounting Practices in Combating Financial Corruption 

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: 

1. The role of International financial reporting standards in preventing fraud and manipulation 

2. The role of internal control in tackling financial and managerial corruption 

3. The role of auditing and corporate governance in fighting against corruption 

4. Forensic accounting and its role in minimizing corruption 

5. Earnings management and quality 

6. Effective accounting information systems and corruption prevention and detection  

7. The transparency of financial reports and corporate social responsibility

 Fourth: Corruption as a Challenge to Economies

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Corruption and income inequality

2. Corruption and economic development 

3. Corruption and the shadow economy

4. Relevant international conventions and initiatives aiming to tackle corruption and illicit financial flows

5. Lack of policy coordination as an obstacle for anti-corruption measures

 

Fifth: Intelligent Information Technology for Managerial and Financial Corruption Prevention and Detection

 

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

1. Data science and machine learning for enhanced managerial and finical transparency.

 

2. Knowledge management and organizational learning for effective audit.

 

3. Socio-technical issues in the application and development of enterprise information systems for managerial and financial corruption prevention and detection.

 

4. Financial and managerial information integration for corruption prevention and detection.

 

5. Enterprise search and content retrieval systems for smart decision-making.

7. Online payment methods for improved control of financial processes.

 

8. The role of health informatics adoption in tackling corruption in developing countries

 

 Sixth: Financial Corruption: Dimensions and Consequences

 

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

1. Dimensions of administrative and financial corruption

 

2. The role of Audit Bureaus and Integrity & Anti corruption Commissions in detecting embezzlement

 

3. International and Regional Anti- corruption Partnerships (World Customs Organization, Arusha Declaration, Koyoto Agreement, Customs executive Net, International Transparency Organization)

 

4. Cash and non-monetary bribery: international dimension of bribery

 

5. Managerial leadership and its impact on administrative corruption

 

6. Financial strategies and methods used to fight administrative and financial corruption

 

7. Fraud and embezzlement (characteristics and examples of embezzlement) and disappearance of cash

 

8. The role of internal control in detecting and preventing fraud and embezzlement

 

Seventh: Implementing Marketing Strategies to Prevent and Detect Corruption

 

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

1. The impact of corruption on firms’ trustworthiness and brands value

 

2. The role of social marketing in raising awareness of the negative consequences of corruption on citizens, business organizations and the society.

 

3. Political marketing and financial corruption: financial donations

 

4. The impact of societal marketing in reducing the level of societal acceptance of corruption practices

 


 Eighth: Participations of Postgraduate Students including Research Papers that are related to the Conference Topics

 

Conference Participation Criteria

 

There is a set of certain rules that should be applied to all final accepted papers to the conference in terms of writing, formatting and submitting them. These are:

 

All papers need to be submitted electronically through the conference submission website (www.mutah.edu.jo/SMPTC) with PDF format

 

Research Papers presented to the 5th international conference organized by the School of Business at Mutah University should not have been formerly accepted, submitted or published elsewhere.

 

If the accepted paper is written by more than one author, at least one of them   is requested to register the paper at the conference.

 

Length of conference papers should not exceed 20 pages (including references and abstract)

 

All research papers must be written in either formal Arabic, English or French language (authors may adopt British or US English dialects)

 

Conference papers should be written on A4 paper size, Times New Roman, 12 font size, 1.5 line spacing, Portrait orientation with 2.54 cm for top and down margins, 3.17 cm for right and left margins and fully justified text. A blank line should be maintained between paragraphs. Regarding figures and tables, they should be assigned a number and a name at the bottom of each figure or table, embedded and centered in the text.

 

Harvard style should be adopted for all alternative sources of information used in the conference papers

Conference Fees

 

Payment for the conference fees should be paid upon receiving the acceptance letter for attending and presenting the research paper. Conference registration fee is $250
